submissions

general guidelines:
fiction, nonfiction, poetry, resubmissions, fast track

We are looking for powerful and poignant works of fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry. We accept works on any topic and subject.

After your piece is accepted, The Tiny Journal receives first North American Publishing Rights and Archival Rights. Following publication, all rights revert back to you, the author.

All accepted work may be subject to small grammar and formatting edits. We will not make any major changes to ideas or concepts. We will send you the corrected piece and proceed forward to final publication only after you have approved the corrected version.

At The Tiny Journal, we highly encourage you to take our feedback into consideration, especially if your work has not been accepted. As writers ourselves, we understand how disheartening a rejection can feel, but we hope our comments will act as a guideline in the revision process. In the words of Ray Bradbury, "you fail only when you stop writing."

submissions Closed
 deadline: December 1st, 2018.

*
due to a high volume of submissions,
our response times may be delayed up to eight weeks.

fiction & nonfiction:

  • Send us up to three of your best fiction and/or nonfiction works 1000 words or less. We allow a 100 word cushion, but any works exceeding 1100 words will automatically be rejected. Excerpts are welcome as long as they can stand alone from the whole piece.

  • Simultaneous submissions are encouraged, but please let us know as soon as possible if your work has been accepted elsewhere. We do not accept previously published works.

  • The deadline for issue i is December 1st, 2018. If you do not hear back from us after eight weeks, feel free to send an email to editorinchief@thetinyjournal.org or use our contact form.

  • We will provide very brief feedback on your work. However, if you would like more in-depth commentary, please scroll down to "fast track" for some options.

  • Ready to submit? Follow these instructions:

    • Email all works to editorinchief@thetinyjournal.org.

    • In the subject line, include your name and the title of your submission. If you have fast tracked your work, please indicate so in the subject line so we can start your review right away.

    • In the body, please include a brief third person biography.

    • Attach your submission to the email. We accept doc, docx, and pdf formats. We read submissions blindly, so please do not put any identifying information on your submission or in the file title.

    • Please single space your submission and use Times New Roman font. Please title your document with the name of your submission. If you are submitting multiple works, include them in the same document.

    • Please do not send multiple works in multiple separate emails. Include all pieces you would like to submit in the same email. If more than one email is sent, we will review only the first email.

    • Please submit no more than a total of three pieces of any combination during a submission period. If we receive more than a total of three works, we will review only the first three. (i.e. Please do not send three poems and a prose piece, or three prose pieces and three poems, etc. You may send two prose pieces and one poem, or two poems and a prose piece, etc.)

    • Because of our high volume of submissions, we have to be sticklers. If you do not follow these guidelines, we will disregard your work without notification, so double check before you submit.

resubmissions

  • A note on resubmissions:

    • If we think your work shows promise and we ask you to resubmit, please do not resubmit until the next submission period. We ask you this because we want to be fair to the other writers who have submitted and be able to give the same time and attention to their work as we gave to yours.

    • This rule for resubmissions also applies if you are submitting different works after we have sent you a letter. If we have not accepted a previous work you have submitted, please do not send new work for us to consider until the next submission period. Again, we want to give the other writers who have submitted the same time and attention we gave to you.

    • All work that does not follow these guidelines will be disregarded without notification.
